Sebbene vietate dalle vigenti norme di legge, in alcuni casi appositamente rafforzate di recente, torce e fumogeni si stanno riaffacciando sulle gradinate del Regno Unito. Il problema sembra particolarmente sentito in Scozia, sia per la maggiore frequenza sia per il coinvolgimento delle tifoserie delle due squadre più seguite. I tifosi dei Rangers sono tornati alla ribalta per questo comportamento in occasione dell’ultima trasferta di coppa nazionale ed i Celtic saranno sanzionati anche per questo dall’ UEFA in relazione alla trasferta di Udine che segnò l’eliminazione dei biancoverdi dall’ Europa League. Casi analoghi sono avvenuti anche in diverse altre gradinate della Scozia e dell’ Inghilterra. Questo tipo di comportamento, di solito posto in essere con soli intenti di sostegno coreografico, sta determinando un giro di vite da parte delle autorità già sfociato in diffide, più o meno lunghe, ed, in casi più rari, nell’arresto. Nel momento in cui la Scozia sta per varare la reintroduzione di intere gradinate nelle quali assistere al match in piedi, con probabile incremento anche del sostegno canoro e scenografico negli impianti, la questione delle torce e dei fumogeni, di per sè marginale, sta diventando per le autorità un’emergenza. 

Investigation into flares and smoke bombs set off by Rangers fans during cup tie

An investigation has been launched after flares and smoke bombs were set off by Rangers fans during a cup tie.

On two occasions during the game against Arbroath on Sunday pyrotechnics were set off in the Rangers end.

Tayside Police confirmed they are investigating the incident at Gayfield Park.

Flares and smoke bombs were set off before the game began at 12.45pm, while further pyrotechnics were lit shortly before half time.

A force spokeswoman said enquiries are being made into the incident, with a “review of CCTV” from the game being carried out.

Rangers won against Arbroath 4-0 in the fourth round Scottish Cup game at the weekend.

The investigation into the incident comes after Uefa opened disciplinary proceedings against Celtic over flares that were set off by their travelling fans in the Europa League tie against Udinese last month.

RENEGADE Celtic fans showed their contempt for football chiefs last night by setting off flares and waving a banner saying “F*** UEFA” at their Europa League clash.They held up the sign ahead of the teams’ arrival on the pitch — before Neil Lennon’s side were dumped out of Europe in a 1-1 draw with Udinese in Italy.A Celtic fan was arrested for attacking one of the club’s own stewards. Parkhead chief Executive Peter Lawwell was in the crowd.Grim-faced Lawwell was spotted on his mobile phone immediately after the banner stunt.Hoops chiefs asked Italian cops to arrest the lout after the steward was attacked.The yob spent the night in a Udine jail.The scenes come just days after the club was hit with a £13,000 fine by the governing body over ‘illicit chanting’ at last month’s home tie with Rennes.The flares were let off — in breach of Italian law — by rogue Hoops fans in the away end of the Stadio Friuli in Udine moments before kick-off.Celtic chiefs were desperate to avoid trouble and had issued warnings to fans spelling out what could happen if flares were lit. They said it could leave the club “exposed to disciplinary action.”It is understood that Celtic will pore over video footage of the banner being raised and the flares being set off.

 

 

Flashpoint … illegal flares are set off in Udinese stadium. Any fans identified will be banned from Parkheadd for life.It is likely the official UEFA match delegate Steen Dahrup, from Denmark, will include the behaviour in his report.Celtic last night refused to comment.

Police in Glasgow have issued a warning to football fans not to take smoke bombs and flares to matches.

Speaking ahead of Sundays match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium, Ch Supt Andy Bates, said: “Over recent weeks, Strathclyde Police has seen more of these flares and smoke bombs set off at football matches.“They represent a significant risk to the safety of those attending the match which is why the law regarding them clearly states that possession of these articles while trying to enter or within the stadium is an offence.“This weekend, we will have trained police dogs inside and outside of Ibrox Stadium.Derek Kirkwood, head of security operations at the Scottish FA said: “Traditionally, Scotland has not had a culture of flares and smoke bombs being set-off in footballstadiums.“Unfortunately, in recent months the use of them has become more prevalent.“It is important that supporters heed the warning from Strathclyde Police this Scottish Cup weekend and at all games in the future.”
