In EPL l’ Arsenal ed il Chelsea hanno sommerso sotto sei reti il Blackpool ed il Wigan mentre  hanno conquistato i tre punti anche il Birmingham, il Tottenham,  il WBA ed il Bolton. Male il West Ham ancora sconfitto e fermo a zero punti dopo due gare.L’attesa gara tra Leeds e Millwall di Championship si è chiusa con il successo dei “bianchi” per tre reti ad una. Vista la forte rivalità tra le tifoserie, i supporters londinesi sono stati posti sotto scorta di polizia ben prima del loro ingresso in città. Sono stati, comuqnue, diverse centinaia i sostenitori dei “Lions” presenti ad “Ellen Road”. Theo Walcott registered the first hat-trick of his club career as Arsenal brought Blackpool back down to earth with a resounding win at the Emirates.

Newly-promoted Blackpool, who won 4-0 at Wigan on the opening day, started well but Walcott slotted Arsenal ahead.Ian Evatt was sent off for a foul that appeared to be outside the area, Andrey Arshavin scoring the penalty, before Walcott drilled a third on 39 minutes.Abou Diaby clipped home, Walcott curled in and Marouane Chamakh headed a sixth.While they squandered numerous chances to extend their advantage, the Gunners now have their first victory of the season and boss Arsene Wenger will surely be delighted with his side’s performance.

Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou both scored twice as Chelsea thrashed Wigan.

Florent Malouda gave Chelsea the lead when he tapped in after Frank Lampard’s deft flick was saved by Chris Kirkland.Anelka added a second shortly after the break when he fired in from inside the area and then nodded in his second before Kalou slotted in his first goal.Didier Drogba then crossed for Kalou to head in his second and Yossi Benayoun rounded off the scoring as Wigan conceded their 10th goal in two games.Although the scoreline was emphatic, for the first half-an-hour Wigan’s simple gameplan of beating Chelsea to the first ball had frustrated the visitors who had won their opening league game 6-0 against West Brom.

Millwall fans escorted to match in Leeds by police

Hundreds of Millwall fans are travelling to Leeds under police escort ahead of the championship football game between the two teams.Police said Millwall supporters were travelling to Woolley Edge services where they would be met by police who would then escort them to the city.Ch Supt Mark Milson said measures were in place to try to prevent any trouble.The game was due to kick-off at Elland Road at 1230 BST.

Leeds registered their first league win of the season with a deserved victory that ended Millwall’s 100% start to this season’s Championship.

The visitors took the lead when Leeds captain Richard Naylor headed a Steve Morison cross into his own net.Jonny Howson struck a post and Darren Ward cleared a Lloyd Sam shot off the line before Sam fired Leeds level.Leeds sent on Davide Somma late in the second half and the striker duly struck twice to give his side the points.Of the two promoted sides, Millwall had started the season better, scoring seven goals without reply in impressive victories over Bristol City and Hull.By contast, Leeds had only managed one point – picked up away at Nottingham Forest last Sunday – and lost their previous home game 2-1 to Derby on the opening day of the season.

Rangers have completed the capture of striker Nikica Jelavic from Rapid Vienna for £4m and expect it to be their last piece of summer business.

The 24-year-old was in Glasgow for a medical on Friday after agreeing personal terms on a four-year contact.Pending a work permit, it is Rangers’ biggest signing in eight years.And Rangers boss Walter Smith earlier admitted: “We could be doing with a few more, but I would think, financially, that would be us finished.”The arrival of Jelavic – Rangers’ most expensive purchase since the signing of Mikel Arteta from Barcelona in 2002 – follows the capture of fellow striker James Beattie from Stoke City and winger Vladimir Weiss on loan from Manchester City.
