Fulham 2 – 1 Hamburg (agg 2 – 1)
A second-half comeback from Fulham overturned Hamburg in the Europa League semi-final to earn a first European cup final appearance for the Cottagers.
Bobby Zamora had a shot saved by Frank Rost before Mladen Petric’s vicious free-kick hit top corner for Hamburg.Zamora limped off but Fulham continued to press forward and Simon Davies broke free of Guy Dumel to poke home.A close-range finish from Zoltan Gera from Simon Davies’ corner moved the hosts ahead before they clung on.

Diego Forlan struck an extra-time away goal to end Liverpool’s Europa League hopes and book Atletico Madrid a place in the final against Fulham on 12 May.
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg in Spain, Liverpool levelled the tie when Alberto Aquilani converted Yossi Benayoun’s cross with a fine finish. And they made it two early in extra time through Benayoun’s half-volley.But former Manchester United striker Forlan fired home a Jose Antonio Reyes cross to confirm Liverpool’s exit.

Caught on CCTV: Carriage spattered with blood and passengers flee in horror as drunken football hooligans attack rival fans
April 2010
- Dozen hooligans jailed for total of 28 years
Horrified parents were forced to shield their children as they fled a train while a mob of football hooligans punched, kicked and stamped on a group of rival fans on board. The yobs were savagely attacking rival football fans in what a judge called the worst case of mob violence he’s seen have been jailed. The drunken group of Sheffield Wednesday supporters were caught on CCTV attacking a group of Leeds United fans returning from a day at the races, causing pandemonium on the York to Manchester TransPennine Service.

Horrified passengers had to scramble over seats to safety. One marauding yob even pushed aside a staff member who tried to block his path with a food trolley. The conductor locked the train doors to contain the shocking violence, which lasted for 10 minutes, but the men used emergency levers to force them open and they escaped close to Garforth station, West Yorks.

But they were all soon caught – three were nicked after being identified on CCTV as known football troublemakers.Jailing them for a total of more than 27 years at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday, Judge Paul Hoffman said: ‘You acted like a pack with a shared intention to beat up the other side. You collectively had a dislike, if not hatred, of Leeds United supporters and they were your intended victims.

‘His group had been drinking in York during the day and been ejected from some bars for their behaviour.’After he told them about the “Leeds lads” the group followed him back to them and the defendant D.M. sparked the violence by punching one of them.’ All 12 men admitted violent disorder on July 11 last year. J., of Barnsley, who has previous convictions for violent offences, and M., of Sheffield, were sentenced to four years in prison. The other ten, all from Sheffield, were also jailed. S. A., 21, was given a three-year term.Outside the court British Transport Police Det Sgt Granville Sellers said. ‘This was an appalling unprovoked attack on a group of young men who were simply returning from an enjoyable day at the races. ‘It was also a terrifying ordeal for the large number of passengers and staff who were travelling on this train and who genuinely feared for their safety.’

Rangers fans wary on Boston derby proposals
A senior Rangers supporters’ representative has urged the club not to pursue plans to play Celtic in Boston in a pre-season friendly.
Ross Blyth, vice-president of the Rangers Supporters’ Assembly, says the club should “look elsewhere”.
It follows a scathing article on the Boston Globe newspaper website about past behaviour of Rangers fans. The author of the article, Mark Stokes, has since apologised for remarks he made about the 1971 Ibrox Disaster. In the article, which has since been removed from the website, Stokes listed a catalogue of reasons why a proposed pre-season friendly between Rangers and Celtic would be bad for Boston and its citizens. Those principally related to crowd trouble involving Rangers supporters, but included in the list was reference to the 1971 Ibrox disaster, the pitch invasion by Rangers fans following the 1972 European Cup Winners’ Cup final and the trouble on the streets of Manchester after the 2008 Uefa Cup final defeat by Zenit St Petersburg.Stokes said of the Ibrox Disaster that it was “widely accepted that the tensions between Celtic and Rangers fans played a major part in the 66 deaths that day”. He has since retracted that statement and apologised for any offence caused. The official inquiry into the Ibrox disaster concluded that Rangers spectators exiting an Old Firm match in 1971 were all travelling in the same direction and the subsequent deaths during a crush were caused by a failure of stairwell barriers.Rangers had said they planned to take issue with the Boston Globe over the “inaccurate and offensive” remarks. And Blyth told BBC Scotland the sentiment expressed in the original article indicated that playing Celtic in that environment could prove problematic.”I would urge the club to look elsewhere. There are plenty of teams we could play,” he said.”Rangers were never going to be very popular in Boston anyway, so this is just an indication of the kind of hassle we could face.”It’s difficult to try to change people’s perceptions. The team, the club and the fans could do without the hassle.”
