Man City sign Sunderland keeper Marton Fulop on loan
Fulop has played 14 games for Sunderland this season
|
Sunderland have confirmed that keeper Marton Fulop has joined Manchester City on an emergency loan deal for the remaining three games of the season.
City had hoped to recall their on-loan keeper Joe Hart from Birmingham to cover for the injured Shay Given, but were blocked and turned to Fulop, 26.The Premier League was understood to have pointed out that there was no recall clause in the original deal.Fulop, Sunderland’s third choice, is set to train with City on Wednesday. The Hungarian travelled to Manchester on Wednesday morning and a deal was finalised in the afternoon. With Given’s regular back-up Stuart Taylor also injured, City were left with the Faroe Islands’ Gunnar Nielsen.”The club, with the backing of the Premier League, have been in contact throughout the day with both Birmingham City and Sunderland with regards to bringing either Joe Hart or Marton Fulop to the team on an emergency basis,” read a Man City statement on their website.

Mark McIntosh: Linfield’s glory boys are going to party like it’s title win 49
So, the Irish FA won’t have to fork out for a helicopter this season. And there won’t even be no repeat of the 1994 finale when the Gibson Cup had to be guarded by a police escort at the Moira roundabout before finding its way to the correct destination. After fluffing their lines on Saturday at Seaview, Linfield got their hands on their 49th title last night after seeing off the team just below them, Cliftonville. Okay, it didn’t have any of the drama or colour of the nail-biting final day deciders but that won’t worry Blues boss David Jeffrey one little bit after Noel Bailie held aloft the trophy. The large Linfield contingent at Windsor Park didn’t look too bothered either as they sang their songs, waved their scarves and acknowledged their heroes.Job done, and with a little bit to spare. They are champions.Ending last season empty-handed hurt everyone connected with the Blues, especially after dominating the local game for the previous three years.Changes were made and, not for the first time, the manager was questioned by the hierarchy. But it takes more than a warning from the Management Committee to rock this DJ.What he has done for the Blues is quite sensational. Outside Windsor there’s barely a fan in the league with a good thing to say about the big man.His larger than life character has some of his own club’s fans less than supportive, too.He doesn’t help himself with some antics aimed at pleasing fans but to question whether or not he is the man to take the club forward is ridiculous. This title — Jeffrey’s seventh in the hot-seat — is the first for many of the new-look Blues. The old hands are used to the pressure life at Windsor brings but at times this season the new brigade have looked edgy when the going got tough. But they came through it and Jeffrey, along with his number two Bryan McLaughlin and coach Alfie Wylie, must to take a lot of the plaudits. Even when the Blues were written off this trio believed in their “babies”.From the iconic Bailie who has played 1001 matches for the club, to Brian McCaul who has played once, this has been an almighty squad effort.Glentoran boss Scott Young admits he is “sick and tired” at being told he has the best side in the league; David Jeffrey knows he has the strongest panel of players. They are by no means a vintage Linfield side, but they are certainly the best of what is around right now and that is all that matters to Jeffrey and co.Such has been the topsy-turvy campaign however, they were made to sweat for it before getting their hands on Gibbo. The Blues had a penalty appeal turned down and Peter Thompson missed a sitter, but then the moment came. Garrett pounced on a loose ball and wrote his name into Blues folklore with the winning goal.Just for good measure his protests were waved away when he hit the deck in the penalty area a second time — but by then it didn’t matter.Nothing was going to halt the Blues title party.

Football yob banned for three years
The warning comes from football intelligence officer for North East Lincolnshire, PC Darren Dodds, after a Town fan was handed a three-year football banning order.L.R was given the order at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court as Humberside Police took action to prevent any further unruly incidents.Magistrates heard how on Saturday, April 25 last year, as Grimsby Town lost 2-1 to Bournemouth – in a match that secured the Mariners’ League Two status – R. was captured on CCTV behaving in a disorderly manner.R. was also spotted in the Osmond Stand at Blundell Park, gesturing at visiting Morecambe fans during Town’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final second leg on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. It was a match that confirmed the Mariners’ place in the showpiece Wembley final.PC Dodds said: “Those who seek to engage in disorder need to bear in mind that the police and other partners will follow up on these events in the weeks and months that follow.”For more from PC Dodds and the conditions of the banning order, see today’s Grimsby Telegraph.
