La doppia serata di “Champions’ League” è iniziata davvero male per le squadre britanniche, con Liverpool e Rangers sconfitti in casa e con l’ Arsenal ( tifosi in foto ) raggiunto nelle battute finali ( 1-1) sul campo dell’ Az Alkmaar. Peggio dei biancorossi londinesi hanno fatto, comunque, i campioni di Scozia che dopo essere passati in vantaggio si sono persi di fronte ai rumeni dell’ Unirea  ed i “Reds” anche loro momentaneamente sull’ uno a zero a favore ma rimontati nel finale dal Lione. Chelsea e Man U dovranno provare a riscattare questo trand negativo nei due restanti incontri.

Liverpool’s woes continued as they let in an injury-time goal in a Champions League Group E defeat by Lyon.

Liverpool lost Steven Gerrard to injury early on but Yossi Benayoun slotted in a Fabio Aurelio cross at the far post to put the home side ahead.Maxime Gonalons then headed in after a goalmouth scramble to equalise.Martin Skrtel blazed a shot high for the Reds before a Lyon counter-attack ended with Cesar Delgado tapping in a Sidney Govou cross at the far post.

Fabregas opened the scoring after Van Persie’s unselfish pass

David Mendes da Silva scored deep into stoppage time to deny Arsenal a victory they fully deserved and snatch a point for AZ Alkmaar in the Champions League.

Cesc Fabregas had put Arsenal ahead from close range while keeper Sergio Romero made several good saves, particularly from Robin van Persie.But Abou Diaby deflected a cross off his chest and on to the woodwork while Hector Moreno missed from close range.Mendes Da Silva then superbly volleyed home from Fabrizio Pelle’s knock-down.

Unirea Urziceni humiliated Rangers, handing the Glasgow side a second successive home 4-1 defeat in Champions League Group G.

Pedro Mendes’ drive looped in off Ricardo Vilana after less than two minutes to give Rangers the lead.Marius Bilasco tapped an equaliser before Steven Davis missed a penalty.A Bruno Fernandez flick deflected in off Kyle Lafferty after the break, Lee McCulloch headed into his own net and a free-kick went in off Stevie Naismith.It meant that last season’s surprise Romanian champions had recorded their first-ever win in European football.
