Arsene Wenger has been handed a two-match ban by Uefa after being found guilty of breaching the terms of a previous Champions League sanction.The north London club has also been fined 10,000 euros (£8,742) for improper conduct by their officials.The Arsenal boss received the ban after he was found guilty of contacting the bench while serving a touchline ban during the first leg of Arsenal’s tie against Udinese on Tuesday, 16 August.Arsenal will appeal against the ban.The ban will take effect immediately, with Wenger set to sit in the stands on Wednesday during the second leg of the Gunners’ group stage play-off match against the Italian side.A Uefa statement said: “The Uefa control and disciplinary body has suspended manager Arsene Wenger from carrying out his duties at Arsenal’s next two Uefa competition matches.”Today’s decision was taken in relation to the Arsenal manager not abiding by the decision of the control and disciplinary body during the English club’s Champions League play-off game against Udinese.”Wenger is therefore suspended for Arsenal’s second-leg match against Udinese in Italy on Wednesday and then the next Uefa competition fixture for which he would be eligible.”The Gunners boss believed he had not done anything wrong after the club had told him he could pass messages to assistant Pat Rice via a coach during the first leg at Emirates Stadium. It’s a Mata of fact! Valencia star confirms Chelsea medical as he nears £29m switch

Juan Mata has expressed his excitement at closing in on a move to the Premier League after Chelsea and Valencia confirmed they have reached ‘an agreement in principle’ for the Spain star.The 23-year-old is just a few formalities away from completing a switch to west London for a fee of around £29million.Ahead of completing the deal, Mata took to Twitter, and wrote: ‘Travel to London for medical examination, and come back to Valencia to say goodbye to everybody as you deserve… thanks so much!’

A Chelsea statement had earlier read: ‘An agreement has been reached with Valencia CF for the transfer to Chelsea of midfielder Juan Manuel Mata. The move is now subject to the player passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.’Valencia’s statement was almost identical in wording.New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has identified a lack of creativity in midfield as one area which requires improvement before the transfer window closes and will no doubt hope the Spain international can provide some nous to an ageing squad.

Chelsea are not the only English club reported to have shown an interest in Mata with north London rivals Arsenal and Spurs linked with a player who has flourished at the Mestalla after failing to make the breakthrough at Real Madrid.Mata joined Valencia from Madrid in 2007 and has emerged as one of their most important players, his form earning him a regular place in the Spain squad.He was a part of the party which won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and was also a key man this summer as Spain won the Under-21 European Championship in Denmark.
