SFA request double their ticket allocation for crunch Euro 2012 clash in Spain

SCOTLAND are requesting more than double their ticket allocation for the final Euro 2012 qualifier in Spain this October.The Tartan Army were disappointed in May when holiday resort Alicante was named the surprise venue for the tie against the world and European champions on Tuesday, October 11.The Estadio Rico Perez, home of second-tier side Hercules, holds 30,000 and under UEFA rules visiting fans are entitled to just five per cent of the stadium.That meant only 1500 members of the Scotland Supporters Club (SSC) were set to be handed a ticket.With thousands more expected in the October school holidays, the number of briefs seemed low.But following meetings between Scottish Football Association staff, the British Embassy and the Spanish FA in Alicante last week, the SFA have now asked for 3200 briefs – just over 10 per cent of the stadium.A statement read: “This would give us a fully secure area behind one of the goals. We will do all we can to get confirmation from the Spanish by the first week in August.”The kick-off time in Alicante has been set for 8.45pm local time, 7.45pm in the UK. Ticket prices have yet to be confirmed.Craig Levein’s team sit third in Group I and will probably have to win their next three games against Czech Republic, Lithuania and Liechtenstein to book a play-off spot.Failure to do so could mean a do-or-die final clash in which they’d need a big result from Spain.Meanwhile, SSC members can log on from 10am this morning to purchase just over 2000 tickets available for the penultimate qualifier in Liechtenstein on Saturday, October 8. Only members on six to 10 away points will be guaranteed a ticket.Sales will be open until August 12.
