Superando per una rete a zero l’Everton il Man Utd ha compiuto un altro passo avavnti verso il titolo. Javier Hernandez struck a late winner to send Manchester United nine points clear at the top of the Premier League with victory against a dogged Everton.

Sylvain Distin gifted United possession and Hernandez made Everton pay seven minutes from time, nodding in Antonio Valencia’s cross at the far post.Hernandez earlier forced two good saves from Tim Howard, while Everton’s Victor Anichebe might have had a penalty.But after a spate of Howard saves, United’s pressure eventually paid off.Sir Alex Ferguson’s side now only need to pick up seven points from their last four games to be assured of a record 19th English league title.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has welcomed the challenge posed by Chelsea’s late-season surge.The champions are second in the Premier League, six points behind leaders United after taking 19 points from a possible 21 since the start of March.”It is good to know someone is behind you. We cannot become complacent,” Ferguson insisted.”We can use our experience of years past in situations like this. Hopefully it will get us where we want to go.”Chelsea moved above Arsenal on goal difference in midweek after the Gunners dropped points at Tottenham and the top three are all in action again over the weekend.In-form Everton travel to face United at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime, before Chelsea play West Ham at Stamford Bridge in the evening kick-off, while third-placed Arsenal go to Bolton on Sunday.United still have to face both Chelsea and Arsenal in their final five league games, going to the Emirates Stadium on 1 May, before hosting Chelsea on 8 May.

Raids target online Old Firm hate campaigns

Police have raided the homes of people suspected of carrying out Old Firm hate campaigns.The operation targets postings of religious and racial hate comments about Celtic manager Neil Lennon and Rangers striker El Hadji-Diouf.It is understood the addresses were identified with the help of the Internet Service Providers Association.An extra 1,000 officers will be out in Glasgow on Sunday for Celtic and Rangers last game of the season.It has been reported that officers had “at least 50” targets connected to comments about various individuals, including Lennon and El Hadji-Diouf.Lennon has endured sectarian threats against him throughout his career as a player and manager at Celtic and was the target of a parcel bomb campaign, which also saw devices sent to QC Paul McBride and MSP Trish Godman.

QPR are set to win promotion to the Premier League in Cardiff if they beat Dave Jones’s side.But Rangers will go before an independent regulatory commission over charges of breaching Football Association rules over the transfer of Alejandro Faurlin on 3 May, three days before the last game of the season.If found guilty, Rangers could be docked points before the end of the season as the Football Association wants to avoid any doubt over who is promoted.
