Kuyt (left) got the vital goal for Liverpool as the Reds struck late

A late Dirk Kuyt header booked Liverpool’s place in the last 16 of the Europa League as the Reds made hard work of beating Sparta Prague.

Kuyt guided in an 86th minute Raul Meireles corner as the home side finally converted one of their chances.

Edin Dzeko scored two early goals and Yaya Toure added a third to ease Manchester City past Aris Salonika and into the Europa League last 16.

City were held to a 0-0 draw in the first leg but £27m January signing Dzeko slotted the hosts in front before curling in a second soon after.After Mario Balotelli’s shot hit a post, Toure fired home via a deflection to seal a 3-0 aggregate win.

SCOTLAND fans will go nuts about Brazil and spark the biggest Tartan Army invasion of London in 12 years as tickets for next month’s glamour friendly go on sale this morning.Scotland Supporters Club members can log on to the ticketlink website from 10am today with all 35,000 members guaranteed a £30 or £35 brief.They will have until a week on Friday to reserve their seat before any remaining tickets go on public sale for the March 27 clash with the Samba superstars.With more than 20,000 expected to make the trip, travel prices have soared.

An England football fan jailed in Portugal for his role in a riot during Euro 2004 is to be transferred to a UK prison to serve out his sentence.

XY, a former firefighter from Kent, was extradited last May after losing a six-year court battle against being sent back to Portugal.X, 53, denies being involved in the fight and claims he did not receive a fair trial in Albufeira.He will serve the rest of his two-year sentence in a British jail.Fair Trials International said the transfer application had been accepted in principle but no date had yet been set.The Birmingham City supporter was drinking with friends in a bar in Albufeira when a riot involving football fans began in a nearby street.He was arrested, tried and convicted within 48 hours.Xs MP Hugh Robertson asked Foreign Secretary William Hague to look into the case, saying the conviction was unsafe.Mr Robertson tried to make a last-ditch appeal for government help over the extradition, but failed to get through to anyone at the Foreign Office.
