Caccia a Stevenage al supporter che, al termine della incredibile impresa deli locali che hanno eliminato il più blasonato Newcastle in FA Cup, ha “festeggiato” l’evento sferrando un pugno ad un giocatore della propria squadra,finito al suolo privo di sensi. Secondo la polizia il gesto potrebbe essere stato determinato da ragioni personali. Rangers e Celtic alle prese con due propri attaccanti in scadenza di contratto. Le società vorrebbero cedere i giocatori per non perderli a parametro zero a giugno ma la situazione è complessa. I campioni in carica hanno raggiunto un accordo per Miller con il Birmingham ma il centravanti pare voglia andare a giugno alla Fiorentina. La società minaccia di metetrlo fuori rosa anche perchè avrebbe già individuato il successore “congelandone” l’acquisto. Tra le squadre che potrebbero prendere il greco Samaras anche la Lazio.

POLICE are appealing for help to catch the Stevenage thug who attacked his own player after their stunning FA Cup win.

As supporters poured on to the pitch at Broadhall Way to celebrate the League Two side’s historic 3-1 win over Newcastle, defender Scott Laird was punched in the face.The yob, waving a red-and-white Stevenage scarf, then hurried back to the stands, leaving Laird unconscious on the ground.Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace has urged fans to name the culprit.He said: “The police footage is comprehensive and he can be seen clearly and full on from the moment he goes on the pitch.”He’s run on from the East terrace, holding a scarf – the kind sold outside the ground by traders before the game.”He approached at least three players, seeming to wait for an opportunity.”He then leaned over a group of fans with Scotty and threw a punch to the side of the head that’s designed to inflict maximum damage. Scotty collapsed unconscious and has no recollection of the incident.”This is disgraceful behaviour and we will do everything we can to ensure he is brought to justice and prosecuted.”Police hunting the thug believe he may have been motivated by a private feud.”

Rangers boss Walter Smith: Kenny Miller signing pre-contract agreement is worst possible outcome.. and I’ll have to drop him

WALTER SMITH last night admitted he’d have to drop Kenny Miller if the striker signs a pre-contract agreement with Fiorentina or Birmingham.

The Rangers boss wants the Scotland ace to be sold or put his future on hold until summer.Smith left Miller out of the squad for last night’s 3-0 Scottish Cup fourth-round victory against Kilmarnock because he didn’t believe he would be in the right frame of mind.Rangers didn’t miss their top scorer as strikes by Lee McCulloch and Kyle Lafferty as well as a second half penalty from Steven Whittaker eased them through.Smith was delighted with the result but more concerned with finding a quick resolution to the Miller saga.He said: “A whole load of clubs find themselves in a situation where a player signs a pre-contract.”It’s an awkward situation for everybody concerned. It would be a difficult issue for anybody, including the player.”The difficulty comes if a player signs a lucrative contract elsewhere and remains at your club. It is a difficult thing to ask them to throw themselves in front of an ugly centre-half every week.”I don’t want it to drag on regardless of how it goes. I want a decision to be made. The situation is clear. Kenny is in negotiations with Birmingham and Fiorentina. We await the outcome of those.

Gutted Georgios Samaras set to snub new one-year deal at Celtic

GEORGIOS SAMARAS will quit Celtic after the club put a 12-month contract extension on to the table.

The Greek, left, will move from Glasgow having had his dreams of a longer stay crushed by Parkhead bosses.Samaras’ term at Celtic looked to be ending when negotiations over a new contract stalled at the end of last year and his current deal set to expire at the end this season.
