Norwich fans banned for anti-social behaviour

It comes after nine men were banned from football matches for three years and fined. The Crown Prosecution Service is committed to prosecuting offences of this nature and has a specific policy to tackle football hooliganism. The CPS’s prosecuting lawyer Oliver Haswell said: “This behaviour is threatening and intimidating and wholly unacceptable affecting both genuine football fans and members of the public alike.“The football banning orders which the court can impose are both a punishment to those involved and a deterrent to those who may choose to behave in a similar manner at future matches. Fans will be prosecuted and orders applied for upon conviction where the evidence permits.“Preventing future violence and disorder will ensure that a day out at the football remains a safe and enjoyable experience for all.”The orders bring the total number of people banned in Norfolk to 27, and Norfolk Constabulary’s PC Andy King, said the guilty verdicts represented another 100pc success rate against alleged fans who were identified, arrested and charged. He added: “Norfolk Constabulary has a zero tolerance policy for anyone committing criminal offences associated with football and actively seeks banning orders when those individuals are brought before the courts.“Nationally, less than 10pc of those who are issued with banning orders reoffend, so this legislation is proven and effective and we will continue to ensure it is used effectively.”Superintendent Jo Doyle, specialist operations lead, said police worked closely with the football club to prevent disorder in and around the ground.“The vast majority of those attending the matches just want to have an enjoyable day out,” he said.“However, there is a small number of anti-social supporters who behave inappropriately and spoil the event for others. These people need to be aware that we will take every step necessary to bring them to account for their actions.”It follows an incident on Foundry bridge, near the rail station, before the Norwich versus Leeds game on March 27.
Scottish football revamp: I want SPL with 14 clubs, says SFA president George Peat
Dec 23 2010 ByKeith Jackson
GEORGE PEAT last night claimed those pushing for an SPL of 10 clubs have got it wrong – then threw his weight behind a 14-team top flight.
And the SFA president also called for a complete winter shutdown.Peat spoke out at Hampden yesterday as he and chief executive Stewart Regan gave their reaction to Henry McLeish’s recommendations on how to save the Scottish game.McLeish, SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster and Regan are all in favour of going back to an SPL of 10 teams. But Peat said: “I’ve always said a 14-team league would be my choice – and that’s going back 20 years ago.jobs and football is not nearly as attractive as it used to be for that very reason.”If there was a bit of leeway the standard would increase.”Peat is also pushing for the entire Scottish season to be rescheduled.Bad weather has wreaked havoc with fixtures in Scotland for the past few weeks. And there could be more postponements across the league cards this weekend.Peat said: “I have been against summer football all my life but recently my views have changed.”I was in favour of a winter break but now you look at it and say when would you have it – December, January or February?”I’m beginning to think we should just stop football over December, January and February and play the season from March to November.”It’s now time for a change. You wouldn’t have the postponements that we’ve witnessed here recently.”I sat and watched a match in England the other night where everyone was covered in mufflers, hats and scarves. I thought to myself, ‘Who would want to go out on a night like this to sit and freeze at a football match?'”Peat and Regan are with McLeish on the idea of merging the SPL and the SFL into one “super league”.Regan is confident the country’s leading clubs can come together to thrash out a new set-up but Peat fears club bosses will put their own short-term needs before the greater good of the game. And he completely dismissed the recent proposal from Hearts, Dundee United and Kilmarnock – for the title to be decided in end-of-season play-offs – as an act of madness.Peat said: “That proposal is crazy. It will never happen.”As the SFA, we can sit down and talk to the clubs but a the end of the day they have their own opinions. You hit the nail on the head when you talk about self-preservation.”Certain clubs will make a decision regardless of what they think the overall benefit to Scottish football will be. They will go down their own personal route.”Peat also claimed radical change in the top flight was unlikely due to SPL rules. He said: “Their voting structure does not help. If they have to get an 11-1 majority then it’s a big, big job.”
