Andrey Arshavin cut in from the left to fire in a shot and Samir Nasri volleyed home to put the Gunners 2-0 up.Ciaran Clark gave Villa hope with an 18-yard strike but Marounae Chamakh’s poked shot for the visitors appeared to quell the home side’s efforts.But Clark nodded in to set up a tense finale before Jack Wilshere headed in late on to secure Arsenal’s win.

Dimitar Berbatov scored five as Manchester United thrashed Blackburn.

Berbatov gave United the lead from Nani’s delivery before Park Ji-Sung combined with Wayne Rooney for 2-0.Berbatov pounced on a Pascal Chimbonda backpass to score the third before grabbing his hat-trick with a firm strike from just inside the area.Nani lashed in to make it 5-0, Berbatov followed up Park’s blocked shot and then fired in a angled strike before Chris Samba’s late consolation.

West Brom enjoyed a first league win away from home since September with victory against 10-man Everton.

The visitors went ahead thanks to Paul Scharner’s header and a sublime 30-yard Chris Brunt free-kick, but Tim Cahill’s close-range header halved the deficit.Mikel Arteta saw red for a mindless stamp on Gonzalo Jara and West Brom then extended their lead thanks to Somen Tchoyi’s brilliant curing effort.Youssouf Mulumbu sealed the win but was then sent off for a second yellow.

Beckham is in Australia with his LA Galaxy team-mates

Everton manager David Moyes has offered David Beckham the opportunity of returning to the Premier League on a short-term loan deal.

Beckham, 35, has spent the last two winters on loan at AC Milan from Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy.And Moyes, who played with Beckham at Preston when the midfielder was 19, is hopeful he may fancy another loan move.He said: “I hope that if David wanted to come he would give me a call. He only needs to call me or Phil Neville.”Beckham and Everton captain Neville are friends from their Manchester United days where they came through the ranks as juniors.

And Moyes added: “He knows how to get hold of Phil and he knows how to get hold of me.”We would have to look into it financially. But if he came and said to me ‘I would like to come and play’ then I would have to go to the chairman and ask if we could make it work by selling enough replica shirts.”Beckham only returned to action for LA Galaxy in September after spending six months on the sidelines with an Achilles tendon injury that ruled him out of England’s World Cup campaign in South Africa.But he finished the MLS season strongly and although he admitted in September that he was unlikely to play for another European team this winter, the possibility of a move to Everton and catching the eye of England boss Fabio Capello may see him make a U-turn.Beckham has won 115 England caps, just 10 behind goalkeeper Peter Shilton who is the country’s most-capped player, and has made no secret of his desire to add to that tally.He is currently in Australia with his LA Galaxy team-mates and is set to play Newcastle Jets on Saturday before flying to Zurich to help England’s bid to stage the 2018 World Cup.Everton are also waiting to hear if Beckham’s Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan wants a second loan spell at Goodison Park.The American impressed last season and Moyes said: “Landon does not need to make up his mind until next month.
