Ferguson named Rooney as a substitute against West Brom

Manchester United have been informed that Wayne Rooney will not sign a new contract with the club, according to reports from the Press Association.

The 24-year-old striker’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2012 and it is understood negotiations over a new contract have broken down.There has been speculation that Rooney will be sold in the January transfer window, with Real Madrid interested.However, United’s response was to label that claim as “nonsense”.

Furious Dundee Utd boss hits out at referee and Celtic counterpart after stormy Tannadice clash

PETER HOUSTON last night launched a blistering attack on ref Dougie McDonald and the Celtic management team.The Dundee United manager was fizzing in the aftermath of his side’s last-gasp 2-1 home defeat by the Parkhead outfit.Celtic boss Neil Lennon questioned McDonald’s decision to award his side a second-half penalty with the score locked at 1-1 – only to change his mind after consulting with assistant Steven Craven.However, Houston was just as angry and fired an outburst in the direction of the officials and the opposition.The Tannadice. boss was unhappy at McDonald’s constant mistreatment of United and also claimed Celtic’s jubilant celebrations at the full-time whistle were over the top and embarrassing.Houston, who is now set to face the wrath of his SFA paymasters who employ him as Scotland assistant boss, said: “Celtic created chances but I thought we coped well with everything they threw at us.”Then Dougie McDonald conspires to try to give a penalty against us.”It’s not the first penalty we’ve been given against us by Dougie.”He couldn’t get his finger to the spot quickly enough – then it transpires it’s not a penalty .”When you see it again on the TV it isn’t a penalty .”What has happened? Is it that momentum has taken Hooper into the goalkeeper?”Two minutes later Ki Sung-Yueng fell down like a sack of tatties and I’ve had players booked for that.”When asked what he felt was going through McDonald’s mind at the time of the furore, Houston added: “I don’t know what goes through Dougie McDonald’s mind, permanent.”I just feel his performance was below-average.”Barry Douglas won a ball against Georgios Samaras in the middle of the park. The ball went out and the referee gave us a foul”Samaras got up and pushed him, yet Barry gets booked. Where is the reasoning in that? “Barry was pushed back by Samaras. He’ll just totally disregard anything that is done.”The United manager then fixed his attentions on to Lennon and the Celtic manager’s staff after they raced down the touchline to celebrate Gary Hooper’s last-gasp winner.Houston said: “It was embarrassing.”Celtic thought they had won the league.”Trackside, the referee has been over talking to Neil Lennon and his backroom staff.”They score a goal and go 25 yards down the track.”I’m going to start doing that if you are allowed. I didn’t think you were.”

Linfield hammered their title rivals at Windsor Park to move four points clear at the top of the Carling Premiership.

A Mark McAllister double put Linfield in charge before Jim Ervin and Curtis Allen made it 4-0 after 28 minutes.Jordan Owens pulled one back for the Crues but there was no stopping the champions and Peter Thompson added a fifth just before the break.Aaron Burns and Allen stretched the lead before Jamie Mulgrew completed the rout after 71 minutes.
