A 26-YEAR-OLD Grimsby Town football fan has been jailed for eight weeks after admitting his part in a riot at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium.
LMG — who had already received two football banning orders — threw an advertising A-frame when Grimsby were relegated from the Football League after losing to the Brewers on May 8 this year.JT Cwas just 17 when he tipped over a large advertising board during the ugly scenes.Burton magistrates also heard from a 41- year-old father of two who impersonated a football steward — before assaulting a real one.Factory line manager BM was given the largest fine of the day — £560 — after he admitted grabbing the arm of steward Simon Still, as well as walking onto the pitch.
He was also caught on CCTV wearing a high-visibility jacket. Prosecutor James Gormley told the court that, by wearing the jacket, M was ‘masquerading’ as a steward — an allegation disputed by defence solicitor Sukhi Ark, who said the defendant had been seen ushering Grimsby fans away from the scene.Both MG and PMR 37 had been charged with throwing large wooden A-frames, but it was MG who received the heaviest punishment as he had already been the subject of previous football banning orders, one of which he had breached.DP 49,Grimsby, had previously denied a public order offence, but later agreed to plead guilty to pitch encroachment. Magistrates agreed to withdraw the public order offence against him and heard he had been caught on CCTV standing on the pitch twice towards the end of the game.Mr Ark, defending, told the court his client had consumed about nine pints of beer before the game and had gone on to the pitch to look for his friends.The solicitor pointed out P had his hands in his pockets and was only seen wandering about the pitch.Four of the men who appeared at Burton Magistrates’ Court were given threeyear football ground banning orders.The only exception was MG, who will be unable to travel to a football match in England or Wales for six years.

Vladimir Weiss close to completing Rangers loan move
Rangers have agreed a deal with Manchester City to take Slovakian World Cup star Vladimir Weiss on loan.
The 20-year-old will be in Glasgow on Thursday to discuss terms over a move to the Scottish Premier League club.Meanwhile, Rangers target Nikica Jelavic has been omitted from the Rapid Vienna squad ahead of the Europa League clash with Aston Villa.The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Ibrox but the clubs have been unable to agree a fee.Striker James Beattie has been Walter Smith’s only summer signing at Ibrox, but the Rangers boss is keen to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes.Jelavic has been with Rapid Vienna for two seasons, having joined them from Belgian club Zulte Waregem.The powerful Bosnian-born forward scored 21 goals last season, three of those coming against Celtic in the Europa League.Honduras striker Georgie Welcome has also been on trial at Ibrox in the hope of clinching a move to the defending Scottish Premier League champions.
