David Beckham has said he will never manage England, but has indicated his desire to play for his country at the 2012 European Championships.

Beckham, 35, was an unofficial member of manager Fabio Capello’s staff at the World Cup in South Africa after injury ruled him out of the tournament.”At the moment I have no interest in being a coach or becoming a manager,” the midfielder told BBC Sport.Beckham also said the players were to blame for England’s poor World Cup.England were beaten 4-1 by Germany in the last 16 and were disappointing throughout the tournament.

Drunken yobs cause chaos at Colwyn Bay football match

DRUNKEN hooligans went on the rampage as a friendly football match between Colwyn Bay and Chester FC turned into a riot – causing chaos in the town and Old Colwyn.Pubs and businesses were forced to shut as boisterous Chester hooligans made their way to and from the railway station in the centre of Colwyn Bay to the Llanelian Road ground in Old Colwyn. No Colwyn Bay supporters were involved in the brawls between a minority of rival Chester supporter sects but police advised pubs and off-licences to close while traffic was reduced to a snail’s pace.

Colwyn Bay’s Saturday market also packed-up early to avoid the drunken troublemakers, while two police helicopters circled.Trouble started when a scuffle broke outside the Royal pub on Colwyn Bay’s Abergele Road before the game got under way.At the match away fans had chanted through a minute silence for a member of Colwyn Bay Football Club. A riot then erupted 15 minutes from the final whistle at Llanelian Road as the Seagulls led Chester 2-0 when a travelling hooligan reportedly smashed a bottle over his own head and was escorted out by security. Riot police armed with taser guns and dogs contained violent troublemakers within the ground before the game was eventually restarted.Colwyn Bay fan DB, 26, from Rhos-on-Sea said the bloody scene caused him to ‘fear for his life’.“They were all drunk. One lad bottled himself, he smashed a bottle over his own head and he had a big cut over his head,” he said.“When the security escorted him out that’s when the gang started approaching them. They started fighting between themselves and then they started chanting ‘We are Chester’.“We jumped over the fence in fear of our lives. They were kicking hell out of the police dogs.”Two men were arrested in Colwyn Bay town centre and another at the match.Friendly games for Chester at Rhyl and Airbus have since been cancelled after police intelligence indicated trouble could follow. While police didn’t force pubs or off-licences to shut they advised landlords and shopkeepers to shut between 5pm and 7pm while Chester fans made their way back to the railway station.

Dave Jones is the landlord at the Royal pub and said trouble had been on the cards before the game got under way.“There was a fight outside the pub before the game, but no trouble inside, it was very intimidating,” he said.“The Chester fans were fighting amongst themselves but some of them came back after the game to apologise for the badly behaved fans.”A popular annual children’s parade from Ysgol Glan-y-Mor through the town was also ditched as teachers marched pupils round the block instead, viewing the crowds as ‘too dangerous’.The hooligans ripped pipping from Colwyn Bay FC’s clubhouse toilets causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage and smashed wooden advertising barriers.Colwyn Bay’s managing director Darren Cartwright said he was disappointed by the fans’ behaviour.“It is always disappointing when you get 1,700 fans and a handful of people spoil it for the rest of us.“It wasn’t a pleasant scene, people were obviously upset, it is not something we are used to at Colwyn Bay club and certainly not at this level of football. Chester have kindly offered to pay for the damage.“We are also very satisfied with the steps they are taking to deal with the situation. No Colwyn Bay fans were hurt or involved and I have to say the way the staff and volunteers handled the situation was top class.”A spokesman for Chester FC have said any fans found guilty of an offence at the match will receive a lifetime ban from games.Chief Superintendent Andy Williams of North Wales Police commented:“I deliberately do not refer to these individuals as ‘football fans’ and I recognise that the majority of Chester FC followers are law abiding people who simply want to watch a game. However, we are not willing to tolerate a repeat of despicable behaviour by a minority of mindless thugs intent on causing harm to people and property.”

Eagles (left) could not prevent Burnley being relegated last season

By Clive Lindsay and Alison Robbie

Burnley have confirmed they have accepted a substantial bid from Rangers for winger Chris Eagles.

And Clarets manager Brian Laws will hold talks with the 24-year-old after his return from Glasgow.Laws told his club website: “Clearly he is a talented player and one I do not want to sell.”But we have a serious financial offer and, with only 12 months left on his deal, we have to be aware that he could walk away next summer for nothing.

Champions League: Overjoyed Jeffrey hails his Linfield stars

By Graham Luney
Thursday, 15 July 2010

David Jeffrey last night declared Linfield’s performance against Norwegian League pacesetters Rosenborg was his “proudest moment” in Europe. The Blues carved out an heroic display in the 1-1 draw at Dinamo Zagreb in 2008 but, in this Champions League qualifier, he watched his troops “produce a performance I didn’t think was possible”.Jeffrey had good reason to be beaming with pride after their slick full-time opponents failed to penetrate a very disciplined Linfield side.He said: “I’m ecstatic, really pleased. I couldn’t overstate the size of the task”

PORTA SOTTO L’OMBRELLONE……….
