L’ Aston Villa si è imposta in trasferta sul campo dell’ Hull City, risultato che inguaia ulteriormente i “Tigers” invischiati nella lotta salvezza. More than 16,000 spectators were in attendance for that match but organisers would be confident of selling out the 68,756-capacity ground for an Old Firm game, generating some much-needed revenue for both clubs.

A similar proposal was mooted six years ago, with Australia as the host country, but the match never materialised.The general secretary of the Rangers Supporters’ Association believes an Old Firm game played in Boston or elsewhere in the USA in the summer would be “quite a spectacle”.John McMillan told BBC Scotland: “I’m quite sure from the point of view of ex-pat fans and American/Canadian locals who are fans, it would be quite a spectacle.”Celtic have a large support in the Boston area, so from that point of view it would be attractive.”There would be some security concerns surrounding the match, but if the right precautions are taken, it could be a good thing.”

PASSPORTS AND VISAS

• you don’t need a visa to enter Spain but your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay
• take out some travel insurance even if you’re only going for one day – if you get into difficulties it could save you a lot of money!

WHEN YOU GET THERE

• large crowds are the favoured hunting grounds for petty criminals so be careful with your valuables – take particular care of your passport
• drinking in the streets in Spain is illegal, and you can be arrested for doing so
• anyone who is obviously drunk or bearing racist insignia will not be allowed into the stadium. Also, any banners bearing political slogans or Real Madrid insignia will not be permitted inside the stadium
• we’ll be tweeting advice for fans on the day so follow us on your mobile @ukinspain (check your operator’s charges)

GETTING TO THE STADIUM

• we advise that Liverpool supporters avoid the south side of the stadium and therefore do NOT use Piramides metro station. To arrive use Puerto de Toledo metro station, or walk to the stadium from Plaza Mayor in the centre – the police have advised that they will escort fans from here to the stadium from 18:30
• the following buses also pass close to the stadium: 17, 18, 23, 34, 35, 36, 50, 116, 118 and 119

AT THE STADIUM

• the entrance to the Atletico Madrid stadium for Liverpool supporters is through Gates 7 and 9 – these entrances are narrow and it will take time to get in. Disabled supporters should enter using Gate 5.
• entry to the stadium is controlled by the Police. Fans will be held back from the turnstiles and only allowed to approach the stadium in small groups. This may mean fans need to wait for over 30 mins before being allowed in.
• entry can get chaotic and supporters are more likely to miss the start of the match so arrive early as the police have indicated to us that they will not speed up entry to accomodate late arriving supporters. Doors will open 2 hours before kick off
• all tickets will be checked by the police before the turnstiles, and bags will be searched. This will take time and we advise that you remain patient and listen to police instructions.
• no flares, fireworks, alcohol, cans, glass, or bottle tops are allowed in the stadium. Soft drinks are available inside the stadium
• after the match, Liverpool fans will be retained for approximately 15 minutes until the Atletico Madrid fans have left the stadium. You will exit the stadium through a different route
