Leeds United are remembering Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight over the Easter weekend.

The club will holding a minute’s silence ahead of the home game against Swindon Town on Saturday April 3 and the players will also be wearing black armbands as an act of remembrance for the two Leeds fans, who were tragically killed in Istanbul on the eve of our UEFA Cup semi-final clash against Galatasaray on April 5 2000.Fans wishing to lay flowers in remembrance ahead of the game on Saturday are asked to do so at the Billy Bremner statue and not beneath the plaque wBilly Bremner statue April 2000hich is situated close to the exit gates from the away enclosure.Family and friends of Chris and Kevin will also be paying their respects by laying flowers at the statue on Monday.This year marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of Chris and Kevin and when Leeds travel to Yeovil on Monday the players will again be wearing black arm bands. Yeovil Town have also expressed their sympathies and their players will also be wearing black armbands as a mark of respect.

 

Our travelling fans at Yeovil will pay their respects by turning their backs for the first minute of the game at Huish Park, as the Leeds fans did at Galatasaray ahead of that fateful game 10 years ago. Both Yeovil Town and the media are aware of the significance of the occasion and, on behalf of the club and the familes and friends, we would like to thank Yeovil for their kind gesture.Also to mark the anniversary, and family and friends of Chris and Kevin have spent the past nine months raising funds for Children’s cancer charity Candlelighters in the name of Leeds Fans Remembrance. A collection will also take place for Candlelighters on the day of the Swindon game and we would ask all our supporters to give generously.Leeds United manager Simon Grayson said: “It will be an emotive occasion on Saturday. This really puts things into perspective when you remember that these two lads died going to watch a football match. Words and actions are difficult, but I hope Saturday will be a fitting tribute to their memory.”The families and friends have worked so hard in raising money as well this year in the memory of Chris and Kevin, and hopefully people will support the collection on Saturday and will remember the lads.”The Swindon game will be followed by a gala dinner in the Conference and Exhibition Centre organised by Leeds Fans Remembrance. Linfield tightened their grip on the Carling Premiership trophy as a 3-1 win at Windsor Park saw them go five points clear at the top with a match in hand.

Gary Hamilton fired in the opener off a post in the 14th minute but Billy Joe Burns rose unchallenged to head in the equaliser six minutes before half-time.Substitute Paul Munster scored the winner with a fantastic strike into the top right-hand corner after 73 minutes.Colin Nixon was sent-off on 88 minutes and Robert Garrett made it 3-1 late on.
