TWISTED

A SICK Celtic fan taunts brave Falklands hero Simon Weston – by waving an ARGENTINA shirt during yesterday’s Old Firm clash.

The vile stunt came as war veteran Simon – who suffered horrific burns in the conflict – was a guest of Rangers’ charity at Ibrox.Furious ex-Army major Mike Rumbles MSP said: “It is totally unacceptable. This mindless rivalry between Old Firm fans has now hit a new low. This is deplorable.”It’s claimed other Hoops fans heaped more shame on their club during their 1-0 defeat by chanting the name of the South American country and waving its flag.Former SAS commander and top civil servant Clive Fairweather said: “It is very extreme and disappointing.”

And Stephen Smith, of the Rangers Supporters’ Trust, added: “It’s a disgrace that this abuse was directed at one of the country’s war heroes.”There’s no excuse for this type of behaviour.”Hero Simon, 48, suffered agonising burns to almost half his body when his ship the Sir Galahad was destroyed by an Argentinian bomb during the 1982 conflict. He was the guest of honour at a special Rangers Charity Foundation’s lunch the day before the Ibrox side’s 1-0 victory.Celtic fans had claimed earlier this week that his appearance was deliberately designed to provoke them. One poster on the Celtic Supporters’ Association website wrote: “This is a decision taken at the very highest level hoping to get a reaction from the Celtic fans.”Why didn’t they present him with a jersey the day before Remembrance Sunday?”Celtic fans were also blasted for not respecting a minute’s silence held yesterday for former Ibrox keeper Gerry Neef, who died last week.Rangers supporters’ chief John Macmillan said: “It was a tiny minority who broke the silence but that is all you need.”

Newcastle football yob banned from all games

THIS is the latest Toon hooligan to be given the boot.

D.O. and his band of soccer thugs have followed the Magpies home and away in search of a scrap.Police identified him as a member of United’s hooligan firm the Gremlins and applied for a football banning order against him. Now, O., 45, of Westfield Avenue, Brunswick, Newcastle, has been barred from all games in England and Wales for three years and from entering Newcastle city centre on match days.Supt Steve Neill said: “It is Northumbria Police’s aim that all genuine fans attending football matches in the North East are able to enjoy the day and participate in supporting their teams in a safe and friendly environment.“Those individuals who intend to detract from the experience will be robustly targeted with all legislation at our disposal, including the use of football banning orders and this case is a good example of that.”O. was banned at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court after a document outlining his links to other notorious hooligans was presented by PC Steve Graham. The incidents he has been involved in include:

Newcastle United vs Manchester United, February 23, 2008:

O. was among a group of Toon supporters that waited at Central Station for Manchester United fans to arrive by train. He was recorded on film shouting abuse at them as they were given a police escort to St James’ Park. O.was seen following the Red Devils’ supporters with fellow soccer yob James Young and Norman Short, who have also been banned, as they moved along Barrack Road.

Newcastle United vs Sunderland, April 20, 2008:

O. was recorded on film as part of a group that waited for Black Cats supporters to arrive off a train at Central Station. He was seen in the presence of Norman Short, now banned, and was recorded gesturing towards their opponents.

Doncaster Rovers vs Newcastle United, July 26, 2008:

O. travelled with a number of known yobs to Doncaster, where they were all spotted in Yates Bar at 10.30am, ahead of the 3pm kick-off. Among those with him were J. Y., S. W., S. H., G. H., A. M. and N. S., all of whom have either previously been banned or are currently subject to football banning orders.
