England football fans plan to make World Cup a carnival of drinking

Cape Town (S. Africa), – Fans of World cup soccer plan to make next year’s World Cup here, a carnival of drinking, but the country’s brewery chiefs fear South Africa will be drunk dry because their top beer is only ninety pence a bottle. It’s great news for fans like Paul McCann and pal Terry Sowle of Bournemouth who follow England around the world and have been saving for a year to go to the World Cup.“Travel and accommodation is going to kill me. So, I’m well chuffed the beer is going to be so cheap. It’s going to be a great laugh. We plan to make the World Cup a carnival of drinking,” News of The World quoted 27-year-old Paul, as saying. The 60,000-strong Three Lions Army are expected to down more than two million pints of South Africa’s famous Castle lager during the competition.“Beer is a serious business – and the absolute worst case scenario would be to run out,” said Marc Taback who has drawn up an emergency booze plan for the country’s biggest supplier, South African Breweries.“All our brewery sites will be working at full capacity during the traditionally quiet winter period so we can stockpile our supply,” said Marc.“England fans are definitely among the thirstiest and it’s about getting beer to the places where they’ll be,” he added.
