Seppure con qualche giorno di ritardo, si è appreso di un nuovo incontro troppo ravvicinato con l’acool per Paul Gascoigne, uno dei massimi talenti espressi dal calcio inglese. “Gazza” sarebbe stato fermato dagli agenti in un quartire di Newcastle in stato di ubriachezza molesta. L’ex fantasista ( foto ) sta combattendo,ormai da anni, una lunga battaglia personale, descritta anche in un libro autobiografico, contro l’alcoolismo. Non resta che dire ancora una volta C’MON GAZZA! Intanto fa discutere la richiesta dei sostenitori dei Wolves di essere rimborsati dopo la magra prestazione, culminata in una sconfitta per 3-0, contro il Man U. Anche una vecchia gloria della squadra come Steve Bull si è detto in disaccordo con quanto domandato dai supporters.

Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has been fined over a drunken disturbance in Newcastle.

The 42-year-old was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in the Jesmond area of the city in the early hours.He was taken into custody and later received a fixed-penalty notice, said Northumbria Police.The ex-Newcastle and Tottenham player has faced a long battle with alcohol, and last year was detained twice under the Mental Health Act.In a BBC interview earlier this year, he said he had been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and claimed to have been clean of drink or drugs for four months.

He said: “In the past every time I left rehab I thought I’m going to have a drink and I had no thought of that this time.”I am a different Paul now.”Gascoigne began his career at Newcastle in 1985, and in 1988 transferred to Tottenham for £2.3m, having played 99 games and scored 25 goals.He shot to fame during the 1990 World Cup in Italy, when he helped England to the World Cup semi-finals.The gifted midfielder retired in 2004, after which his addiction to drugs and alcohol spiralled out of control.

AFP – Paul Gascoigne was arrested and fined Wednesday for being drunk and disorderly, police said, in the latest alcohol-related problem to hit the troubled England football legend.Gascoigne, 42, was taken into custody following a disturbance in a residential part of his native Newcastle, northeast England.“At 2:15 am (0215 GMT) a 42-year-old man man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and was later given a fixed penalty notice,” a Northumbria Police spokeswoman told AFP on Wednesday.Fixed penalty notice fines are set at 50 pounds (80 dollars, 55 euros) and 80 pounds (130 dollars, 90 euros) depending on the seriousness of the offence.Gascoigne has struggled with alcoholism and depression since retiring from the game, and has undergone treatment for bulimia and obsessive compulsive disorder. He has also been involved in a much-publicised row with his ex-wife.Last year he was detained under the Mental Health Act following an incident in Newcastle.Gascoigne — known to fans as “Gazza” — made 57 appearances for England. He also played for such clubs as Newcastle, Tottenham, Glasgow Rangers in Scotland and Lazio in Italy.Considered one of the most talented English players ever, the former midfielder is best known for his exploits in the 1990 World Cup finals in Italy where he helped England reach the semi-finals.
