Aston Villa ended a 10-year wait to beat Manchester United and moved up to third place after achieving their first Premier League victory at Old Trafford.

Gabriel Agbonlahor scored the winner, heading in from Ashley Young’s cross.Wayne Rooney’s shot smashed against the underside of the bar as United hit back, while Ryan Giggs also went close.Nemanja Vidic had a header cleared off the line and Brad Friedel superbly denied Dimitar Berbatov as Villa clung on to claim an historic win.The last time Villa beat United was in 1999, in a league cup match, and it is the first time in 28 league games that Villa have claimed all three points against Sir Alex Ferguson’s men, in a run stretching back to 1983.

Away fans banned from Posh boxes

Published Date: 11 December 2009

Peterborough United has banned away fans from its executive boxes following an incident at last Saturday’s match against Swansea City.
A Posh fan had to be ejected from the London Road ground during the match, for repeatedly banging on the windows of one of the boxes, Cambridgeshire police said.He was reacting to the behaviour of Swansea City fans within the box, who were said to have incited Posh fans in the family stand after seeing Swansea score in the game, which ended in a 2-2 draw.Posh bosses said the incident was “regrettable” and issued the following statement on the club’s website: “Peterborough United Football Club wish to confirm that no away supporters will be invited to watch matches at London Road from our hospitality boxes.”We recognise that this caused problems with a section of supporters and we have taken the appropriate action. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”According to a debate on the Posh fan website, the Swansea supporters were said to have “goaded” Peterborough fans throughout the game in front of the box.Swansea City said it had not received any correspondence from Peterborough United regarding incidents involving away fans.A spokesman added: “We did not sell any hospitality box packages to our supporters and without knowing any details from Peterborough, it is difficult to comment.”
