“Police have thanked fans of both teams following yesterday’s East Anglian derby – with just seven people arrested.
About 300 police officers were on duty for one of the county’s biggest policing operations this year which had been in the planning since before Christmas.
As well as those arrested, 13 people – all Town fans apart from one Norwich City fan – where ejected from the ground. The majority of these were by the club for people smoking inside Portman Road.
Suffolk police Superintendent John Everett, match commander, said: “There was always going to be an edge because of the result factor and obviously Ipswich where looking for a win and Norwich do not want to be relegated.
“That is on top of the normal competitive edge with the derby atmosphere. I would thank the fans for taking the advice and our requests to behave and act responsibly. It is a very small minority who allowed their emotions to boil over and get themselves into trouble and be arrested.”
Norwich City fans who travelled to the game by coach and train were met at Ipswich Railway Station by police officers who escorted them to Portman Road. The same process was reversed following the match.
Police also thanked Canaries fans for their “patience” after their train was delayed for an hour due to signalling problems. The fans were allowed off the train and water was handed out to them.
Supt Everett said: “When you look at it being a capacity crowd and what was riding on the game and the end result as far as Norwich is concerned, from a policing perspective it passed off extremely well. I would like to thank both clubs for their involvement and support.”
More than 2,000 Norwich City fans made the trip along the A140 to the match, which Norwich lost 3-2, severely denting their hopes of avoiding relegation.”

CHELSEA players avoided a bloodbath by minutes when they celebrated booking their place in the  FA Cup Final.

Stars including Frank Lampard, 30, John Terry, 28, and Joe Cole, 27, left a West End club just moments before a gruesome fight broke out.
One woman was left covered in blood after being hit on the head with a wine bottle.
The Blues heroes had been celebrating their 2-1 win over London rivals Arsenal at the trendy Movida nightclub.
Goalscorer Didier Drogba, 31, mid-fielder Michael Essien, 26, and striker Salomon Kalou, 23, joined the English players as they partied until just after 4am.

But less than five minutes after the weary-looking stars were driven away from the club, a terrifying catfight broke out between girls who had been there at the same time as the football idols.
According to eyewitnesses, one woman smashed a wine bottle on a girl’s head before the fight spilled out to where the revellers’ cars were parked.
The girl who was struck by the bottle suffered what looked like a serious head wound. Blood poured down her face from a gash on her forehead.
She also appeared to have been struck on the wrist as she bled heavily from another cut.
One witness told the Daily Star last night: “Just after 4am, when the club closes, the players came out and went off in cars.
“Then a few minutes after they had gone, a group of women left the club.
“There were some words exchanged and then one girl came up with a wine bottle in her hand. She bottled the girl in the blue dress before driving off with her friends.”
Earlier in the evening, Chelsea stars had been celebrating reaching this year’s FA Cup Final under temporary manager Guus Hiddink, 62.
Man of the match Lampard, who made both of the Blues goals, was joined by his rumoured new girlfriend Saskia Boxford, 23, at the nightclub.
She left at 3.30am, 40 minutes before the bleary-eyed England midfielder followed. Kalou also partied with a sexy, long-legged girl before leaving in a cab with her as she clutched a single red rose.
A spokesman for Lampard said he could not comment because the players had already left when the fight broke out.
He said: “They weren’t there. They were sensible boys and they had already left.”

A spokesman for the west London club added: “This has got nothing to do with Chelsea Football Club or players so we will not be making a comment.”
But it looked like defender Ashley Cole, 28, was still grounded by his Girls Aloud star wife Cheryl, 25, following claims he had cheated on her with a hairdresser. He was not spotted with his team-mates on their big night out.
Regular visitors to the club have included Kate Price, 30, Prince William, 26, and Paris Hilton, 28.
And it is a popular haunt with other Premier League stars. Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, 24, and Wayne Rooney, 23, attended the club’s Christmas bash there last year.”
