England 2018 boss Andy Anson calls for Fifa reform
England 2018 bid chief executive Andy Anson has warned his country against bidding for the World Cup again until Fifa reforms its voting process.
Fifa’s 22-man executive committee – each with one vote in a secret ballot – picked Russia to host the event as England collected just two votes.”I would say right now don’t bother (bidding) unless you know the process is going to change,” said Anson.”When there are only 22 guys that gives them too much influence.”England, who have not staged the World Cup since 1966 and also failed to land the 2006 event, were knocked out in the first round of voting.

Bulls’ chairman’s fury at crowd yobs
Hereford United chairman David Keyte has promised to work closely with police to bring to justice those responsible for crowd trouble during last week’s derby clash at Shrewsbury.Fighting broke out between rival supporters at Greenhous Meadow during the first half of last Tuesday’s League Two match.Hereford have promised to look closely at the available information, which is currently being gathered by police and Shrewsbury club officials.“We are sad and sickened by what happened and hopefully all the culprits will be identified and dealt with by the courts,” said Keyte.“This sort of thing casts a shadow over the club, its loyal supporters and the game of football.“The outbreak was mindless and pointless and we will make sure that any guilty from Hereford will be banned from the ground.”Police said more than 100 people were involved in the fighting and a number of arrests were made.Chief Inspector Martin Whitelegg said Shewsbury club officials were forced to call for police support when the trouble broke out.“Prior to the fixture, we were not requested by the club to provide policing at the ground as they have their own stewards,” he said.“However, we did have a small number of officers on duty to deal with any ancillary disorder in the town.“But due to significant disorder breaking out in the ground during the match, which the stewards were unable to manage on their own, the club’s safety officer requested assistance from the police and we attended to restore order. We had to mobilise force reserves to deal with the situation.He added that the police and club would hold talks concerning future stewarding of matches and that video footage would be studied to identify others involved in the disorder.“We will be conducting investigations into what happened and to identify the offenders.“This will include examination of CCTV to trace the offenders, who will be dealt with for offences of affray and public order,” he said.
