Il “Lancashire Derby” tra Burnley ( supporters in foto ) e Blackburn è una delle più sentite sfide inglesi. Le due città distano appena 18 km e la rivalità tra le due formazioni è enorme. Anche quest’anno sono state poste in essere accuratissime misure di sicurezza per evitare contatti tra le tifoserie una delle quali, quella dei “Clarets”, è da sempre considerata piuttosto turbolenta. In occasione della gara di andata le due tifoserie si diedero appuntamento in un pub, il “The Station”, e l’ intervento della polizia a cavallo portò a trenta arresti. A gennaio diciannove tifosi del Burnley sono stati rinviati a giudizio in merito ai fatti. Sul campo si è imposto di misura ( 1-0 ) il Blackburn che consolida la propria posizione tranquilla in classifica inguaiando ulteriormente il Burnley che appare destinato a lottare con Hull e West Ham per evitare la retrocessione. Fernando Torres ha trascinato il Liverpool ad un prepotente tre a zero ai danni del Sunderland, risultato che ha riportato la squadra di Benitez al quinto posto.

WHATEVER the score when Burnley play Blackburn Rovers tomorrow, half of the workers at Fairham Mouldings know they will have a difficult Monday.Because as Clarets-mad owner John Fairhurst admits, nothing but a win for Burnley will do.The boss of the rubber mouldings factory at Glenfield Park in Blackburn is praying for a home win at Turf Moor to ease his side’s relegation fears.But the 52-year-old knows that if Rovers do triumph in the midday Premiership clash, he will be in for a rough ride when he returns to work.He said: “There’s a few more Blackburn fans than Burnley here and the other company upstairs, NIE Northern Industrial Electronics, are all Blackburn too.“We’re hoping to not get defeated, that’s the main thing, but really we need the win and the three points.“It’s going to be a difficult game because they are playing well and we’re not.“I’ve not placed any bets, because I’m not losing any money over it!”One employee Damien Wild, 37, has been friends with John for nearly two decades.But as a Rovers fanatic who works at Ewood Park on match days carrying the play-ers’ stretcher, he hopes to be the one with the final bragging rights. He said: “The banter is brilliant. It’s good fun.“I don’t say too much these days though, because I’m a great believer in what goes around, comes around.“When I was younger my wife would know not to speak to me if we lost, and the neighbours would lock their cats and dogs away!”Damien predicted a 3-1 away victory, while John commited himself to a 1-0 Burnley win.John added: “It’s about time we won one of these games.“If we do all the Ewood Rovers fans in Darwen will be upset on Monday!The Met Office predict sunshine with clouds, temperatures of 9°C and westerly winds of 17mph, with very good visibility.

Burnley’s survival hopes suffered a major blow after a David Dunn penalty handed local rivals Blackburn victory.
Dunn gave Rovers the lead from the spot in the first half after Martin Olsson was judged to have been brought down by goalkeeper Brian Jensen.Olsson also rattled the bar with a fierce drive while Jason Roberts headed wide from inside the six-yard area.Burnley’s Leon Cort volleyed a yard wide, while Wade Elliott failed to get a crucial touch on Danny Fox’s cross.With West Ham having lost again on Saturday to leave them in joint 17th with Hull, Burnley knew a win would have lifted them level on points with the Hammers and the Tigers, albeit with an inferior goal difference.
